Gas Refrigerators and Freezers

Yes, it's possible to keep your food cold off the grid. With our Servel LP gas refrigerators, it's actually easy!

Our Servel LP gas refrigerator works anywhere, even miles from the powerlines
Remote location? No problem! Being far away from modern civilization is no challenge for our LP gas (propane) refrigerator. Our Servel LP gas refrigerator is perfect for campgrounds, lodges, cabins, solar or off-the-grid homes and remote houses or cottages.

How it works
In an LP gas (propane) refrigerator, heat makes cold through the natural cooling power of evaporation. An ammonia mixture permanently sealed inside the service-free cooling unit is heated by a small flame and generates a never-ending cycle of evaporation and condensation.

Reliable and long lasting
The continuous absorption-type cooling unit of our LP gas refrigerator is powered by the small amount of heat produced by the gas or kerosene burner. The liquid circulation of the unit is purely gravitational. There are no moving parts to wear out. This means fewer repairs -- an important consideration when you are miles from anywhere and far from a repair shop. Some Servel gas refrigerators have been in continuous use for over 50 years!

The ultimate test
Our LP gas refrigerator's freezer compartment is one of the largest on the market and the biggest one that really keeps food cold in hot weather. Even on the hottest days, a Servel propane refrigerator will keep your ice cream frozen solid.

Free electric back-up power
Plug in your Servel gas refrigerator for backup electric power or fulltime use. A heating element simply replaces the flame - there is still no compressor to go bad.

We also have kerosene refrigerators, which are popular with our Amish neighbors. We encourage you to browse around our site to learn more about propane refrigerators in general, and to find details and overviews on specific models.
